Objectives: Scheduling researches have been evolving in their theoretical aspects and practical applications in the last several decades. The area of the researches is widely spreading from industries for tangible products such as manufacturing systems, project management, logistics and transportation, to services for intangible products such as health care, education, sports management, and so on. For several organizations, scheduling is one of the key technologies to improve the quality of service and to survive in the fierce competition. This international symposium has aimed to give opportunities for researchers and practitioners to exchange innovative ideas on various topics of scheduling and related areas. Commencing in Sizuoka 2002, and continued in Hyogo 2004, Tokyo 2006, Aichi 2009, and Osaka 2011. In those symposiums, not only domestic researchers but also foreign researchers gathered and contributed to enhancing communication networks. In order to expand the scheduling theories and applications, the sixth International Symposium on Scheduling will be planned to hold at a seaside area of Tokyo in 2013. Through the symposium, it is expected that knowledge and technology of the latest scheduling methodology will be communicated, and some seeds/ ideas for future researches and practices will be discovered. We are preparing keynote speeches/ tutorial session, best paper awards, and a special issue of JSME journal for the selected papers. We are earnestly looking forward to meeting you in the symposium.
Topics of Interest: Whole themes on scheduling, which include Scheduling Theory, Scheduling Technologies, Case Studies, Scheduling of Manufacturing/ Production/ Distribution/ Transportation/ Health Care/ Education/ Service etc., Optimization Method, Evaluation Method, CAD/CAM, TOC, APS, SCM, ERP, CIM, JIT, BCP, etc.

Invited Talk:
Atsuko Enomoto, Daisuke Tsutsumi, Qiqige Bayasi (Hitachi Ltd., Yokohama Reaserch Laboratory), Kiichiro Iida (Hitachi, Ltd., Power Systems Company), Toshiaki Shibata (Hitachi, Ltd., Infrastructure Systems Company) Abstract: As manufacturing activities have been getting globalized and product models have become more and more diversified, animated work instructions for assembly sequence have been increasingly employed to assure product quality. However, assembly sequence planning and subsequent animation editing time drastically increases and becomes unacceptably time consuming in the order of factorial as the number of assembly parts grows. To address this problem, a fast assembly sequence and assembly motion generation method have been developed based on assembly constraints and locations of parts in 3D-CAD assembly models. Generated assembly sequences have been automatically translated into animation scripts and eventually employed as animated work instructions in actual manufacturing sites. |
Tutorial:
Rei Hino (Nagoya University) Abstract: The technique involving cyclic scheduling for mono-product with re-entrant processes can be adopted to low volume productions in low cost. In this tutorial talk, an industrial background of this problem will be addressed as an introduction, and the fundamental knowledge for mixed integer programming of the conventional job shop scheduling problem adopting the commercially available optimization software is explained. As the main topics, the structure of this scheduling problem is explained from the viewpoint of mathematical programming. |
